FAQs
Tesla Powerwall Installation — Frequently Asked Questions
How many Powerwalls do I need?
It depends on your home's daily energy use and how much backup you want. A typical 2,000 sq ft Southern California home uses around 25-30 kWh per day. One Powerwall (13.5 kWh usable) covers essentials like fridge, lights, and Wi-Fi for an outage. Two Powerwalls can cover most of a normal day's usage. During your free site audit we look at your electric bills and goals to recommend the right configuration.
Can a Powerwall power my whole house during an outage?
Yes, with the right configuration. Whole-home backup typically needs multiple Powerwalls plus proper integration with your main panel. Smaller setups can power critical loads only (fridge, lights, modem, medical devices). We design the system around what you actually want to run during an outage.
Does Powerwall work with my existing solar?
Yes. Powerwall integrates with both new and existing solar systems. If you already have solar, we'll evaluate your inverter and panel compatibility during the site audit. Pairing Powerwall with solar means you can store daytime solar production and use it at night or during outages — squeezing more value out of your existing investment.
Will I save money with a Powerwall?
Savings depend on your utility rate plan and usage pattern. Powerwall is most valuable for homeowners on time-of-use rates (the default in most of SoCal Edison's territory) because you can charge the battery during off-peak hours and discharge during peak. Combined with solar, the savings compound. We'll model your specific scenario at consultation.
What's the warranty on a Tesla Powerwall?
Tesla provides a 10-year manufacturer warranty on Powerwall. Our installation work is also warrantied — we're with you for the life of the system, including software updates and any service that may come up. If something needs attention, you call us, not a Tesla call center.
